A little preparation before your loc retwist makes a real difference — for how comfortable your appointment feels and how healthy your locs stay long-term. Here's what we recommend to every client booking a retwist with us. ## 1. Come In With Clean, Product-Free Hair (When Possible) If you're able to wash your hair 1-2 days before your appointment, do it. Clean roots make new growth easier to work with and help the retwist hold better. Avoid applying heavy oils, gels, or butters right before your visit — buildup at the root can make new growth slippery and harder to twist cleanly. ## 2. Don't Wait Too Long Between Retwists We generally recommend retwisting every 4-8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how your locs are maturing. Waiting too long means more new growth to work through, which can mean a longer, more tension-heavy appointment. Staying on a consistent schedule is one of the easiest ways to keep your scalp comfortable session after session. ## 3. Note Any Scalp Sensitivity Beforehand Everyone's scalp is different, and that's completely normal. If you know certain areas are more tender, or you've had discomfort at past appointments elsewhere, tell us before we start. We adjust our technique and tension based on what you tell us — gentle hands are kind of our whole thing. ## 4. Skip Heavy Styling Products the Day Of Save the heavier creams and oils for after your appointment. A lighter, cleaner canvas lets your stylist see your natural growth pattern clearly and work more precisely. ## 5. Bring Reference Photos If You Want a Style Change Thinking about trying a new part pattern, adding accessories, or adjusting the size of your locs? Bring a photo or two.
